We are delighted to announce that our joint article “High-Performance Carbon-Based Supercapacitors” has been accepted for publication in 2D Materials by IOP Publishing! 🎉
This achievement, developed within the TRANS2DCHEM project funded by the EIC – European Innovation Council, brings together our insights on the key aspects of translating fundamental research into industrially relevant supercapacitor technologies.
What’s inside?
This perspective goes beyond theory. It provides a systematic overview of the practical engineering challenges of carbon-based supercapacitors, especially those based on activated carbon, curved graphene, and nitrogen-doped graphene (including SC-GN3), highlighting:
✅Performance bottlenecks in real-world devices
✅ Sustainable material sourcing and greener processing routes
✅ The importance of scalable architecture & industrial compatibility
✅ Integration of advanced materials into scalable formats such as wound and pouch cells
Why does it matter?
This is a call to action for interdisciplinary cooperation across academia, industry, and public stakeholders. The successful advancement of materials like N-doped graphene to TRL6 is not just about synthesis – it requires aligning manufacturing protocols, device design, and market expectations.
Only through collaboration can we bridge the “valley of death” between lab-scale innovation and industrial impact.
